Baths, Birthdays and a Big Boy

We are hanging in there and having a blast with our little family. It has been quite an adjustment, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Aubrey is actually doing a pretty good job at night. Last night she went 5 1/2 hours between feedings. She has her fussy moments during the day, but I think her tummy has just been bothering her. Here are a few pics of our last few weeks.

On Sunday, we celebrated her 1 month birthday! She looks real excited, doesn't she?!

Here is our 1 month old little girl! This month has really flown by...I hope it slows down some!

And Riley is adjusting just fine to having a little sister around. He gets very concerned about her when she's crying. He is still learning how to be gentle, but he is doing much better. I hope you are all doing well!

Girly Room and 2 week Nurse's visit

I know that Edmond already posted pictures of Aubrey's room on FB, but I wanted to put a few on here. It has definitely been a work in progress. As you might remember, we didn't get to move into this home until mid-June so I hadn't done ANYTHING up to that point. Of course, we had the bedding and I tried to be a little crafty while I was home visiting, but nothing was put up until late June/early July. Anyway, here are a few pics of her room!

I LOVE having a bookshelf in her room now! Thanks Mom! We also will have a rocker in the corner by the bed, but it is still in Riley's room right now.

My mom bought the bedding for us from the Javis Davis website. It gives you groups of fabrics that go together and you can mix and match to create your bedding. I didn't want something too pink!

This was one attempt at creativity! I used some leftover fabric and put into these wooden frames (from Wal-mart). There really was no "good" spot for them in her room so they are on a short wall that you see when you first walk in. I think it's good touch of color there. **I think I got this idea from someone, but can't remember who....I promise to give you credit if you remind me!!! haha!!

And here is my next attempt at creativity. I did a name frame like this for Riley too (got this idea from my mom's friend Mrs. Karen Stafford). But, Aubrey's name was a little bigger so I had to get a bigger frame. As a result, there was more empty space so my mom helped me to sew the paisley fabric on the edges of the solid fabric to make it a little more colorful. She is just so good!!

2 weeks old!!

One really cool perk of being in the military is the health benefits. Of course because of the obvious financial reasons, but also because we were able to have a nurse come to our home for Aubrey's 2 week visit. I had no idea about this service, but apparently I can call her anytime I have concerns and she can come by to check on her. I am excited to know about this, but hope we won't be having any situations in which I need to take advantage of it.

The main purpose for this visit was to check her weight (not sure if I mentioned before but she lost quite a bit of weight after birth and we had to take her in several times to have her weight checked) and give us information about what to do/not to do, etc.

Aubrey was very well behaved during the visit!!

So...as far as her weight goes....she really shocked us. At birth she was 7 lbs, 7 oz. Then she dropped to 6 lbs, 12 oz. 2 days later, then up to 6 lbs., 13 oz, 2 days after that, and then 7 lbs. 2 days after that. Did you follow that???? Two weeks later, she weighed 8 lbs and 4.5 ounces!! The nurse was pretty surprised and said babies were expected to gain 9-18 ounces at her age and she had gained 24! She then went on to tell me that feeding her isn't always the answer to fussiness. I started laughing in my head because at first they are telling me to feed her all the time and now they are telling me that I'm feeding her too much!! Ugh...I just can't get it right! Anyway, I have backed off from feeding her as much, but when she's hungry...she's going to eat!!

All in all, her 2 week visit went well. As you can see, her little cord still hadn't fallen off, but has since this was taken (this post is almost 1 week after the nurse's visit). I will do a post soon on her first real bath experience. Riley was a good helper!!

My Captain!

Here are some pictures from Edmond's promotion ceremony. It was very informal, but that was good considering that Riley had less than a 1 hour nap! He wasn't grumpy, but was super excited and his talking was more like yelling! Oh well, the Colonel who led the ceremony was very patient and didn't seem bothered by Riley's talking. I was able to pin Edmond's Captain bars on one side of his uniform and it was such an honor. I really am so proud of who my husband is, not just as a husband and father, but also as a pilot and member of the United States Marine Corps. He is a pretty awesome guy who loves the Lord with all of his heart!
